Identity Protection - Human Resources

Purpose for Collecting Social Security Numbers Libertyville School District 70 treats social security numbers (SSNs) confidentially. It uses SSNs for one of more of the following reasons:<blockquote><ol><li>Employment matters, e.g., income reporting to the IRS and the IL Department of Revenue, tax withholding, FICA, or Medicare; <li>Verifying enrollment in various benefit programs, e.g., medical or disability insurance and veterans' programs; <li>Filing insurance claims; <li>Internal verification or administrative purposes.</ol></blockquote>In addition, State law authorizes and/or requires the District to use or disclose SSNs in specified circumstances including, without limitation, in the following circumstances:<blockquote><ol><li>Disclosing SSNs to another governmental entity if the disclosure is necessary for the entity to perform its duties and responsibilities; <li>Disclosing a SSN pursuant to a court order, warrant, or subpoena; and <li>Collecting or using SSNs to investigate or prevent fraud, to conduct background checks, to collect a debt, or to obtain a credit report from a consumer reporting agency under the federal Fair Credit Reporting Act.</ol></blockquote>If you have questions or concerns, please contact Dr. Tom Bean, Director of Human Resources: 847-362-9695.

D70 Honored with Bright A+ Award - Superintendent's

District 70 is being honored for its high student academic performance with a Bright A+ Award. The 2011 Bright A+ Award is based on school districts with academic performance in the top 5 percent of the state. Libertyville was one of 59 districts in Illinois (out of 868) to receive the award, now in its 13th year. ''Truly, this is a testament to the district, to all of our students, parents and staff," Supt. Dr. Guy Schumacher said. "We're in the top 5 percent in the state; Kudos to everyone for working so hard." SchoolSearch, an Illinois company which provides school information to companies relocating employees, presents the award. The award is based on the Illinois Standards Achievement Test scores on reading, math and writing in third, fifth and eighth grades. For the award, the overall average percentage must place in the top level of the test scores.

Limit Setting & Your Child - Superintendent's

D70 social workers and psychologists will offer a workshop on "Limit Setting and Your Child" at 7 p.m. on Feb. 1 at Copeland Manor School, 801 S. Seventh St., Libertyville, and again at 1 p.m. on Feb. 3 at the Educational Resource Center (ERC is the district office) at 1381 W. Lake St., Libertyville, across from Butterfield School. This workshop is for parents who have ever felt like screaming, crying or "whatever" in response to their child's behavior. District staff will explain why limit setting is important, how to set appropriate limits and how to balance love and affection with rules, limits and expectations. Discussion also will focus on what is hoped to be gained from limit setting, the differences between natural and logical consequences, and how to be creative in the choice of consequences. The workshop is free to District 70 parents or interested community members. It is repeated on Feb. 3, so please attend only once.

When Kindergarten and Preschool Meet - Superintendent's

D70 kindergarten teachers and representatives from area preschools including Advocate Condell Child Day Care, Growing with Grace, Kinder Korner Preschool, and the Libertyville Cooperative Nursery School, met today to discuss curriculum and how the groups can work together to enhance the education of Libertyville children. It was the first time in many years that the groups met together to discuss how they can provide a smoother transition between grade levels and to make sure the curriculum is aligned.

Partners for Excellence in Education - Superintendent's

Partners for Excellence in Education, area business leaders who partner with Libertyville Elementary District 70, met to determine which creative projects being proposed by teachers will be awarded this year's mini-grants. This is the 16th year for the partnership's "Mini-Grant Awards" program, which has awarded almost $100,000 over the years for direct use in the classrooms. Teachers throughout the district apply for the grants by proposing innovative and unique classroom projects that go beyond the normal classroom activity. The partners met to determine which grants to award after more than 40 staff members applied. Once funded completely by Motorola, 24 area businesses now continue to carry the project with donations of time and money.

D70 Honors Cook Memorial Public Library - Superintendent's

Libertyville District 70 teachers, as a part of the Character Counts! Committee, presented a Character Counts Community Service Award to members of the Cook Memorial Public Library Children's Department and Young Adult Services. The Character & Leadership Award was presented "in honor of exemplary character, leadership and service" during a December Board of Education meeting after Learning Center director's from all the schools recommended Cook Memorial Public Library staff. Those being honored included Children's Department Manager Eileen Sullivan, Young Adult Services Coordinator Ellen Jennings, also a former District 70 Board of Education member, as well as members Heather Beverley and Rob Eckmann, and School Services Coordinator Jan Hastings. "Thank you for all that you do for our students and the community," Supt. Dr. Guy Schumacher said when handing out the awards with teacher Dale List. The library members were recognized for addressing the needs of the learning community, supporting the District 70 school staffs with resources, suppy a host of books for English Language Learners during a special District 70 Bilingual Family Game and Reading Night, inviting school administrators to read, attending Career Day at Rockland School and above all, "motivating and instilling a love of reading."

There will not be six more weeks of winter according to the ground hogs at Rockland School. Danya Greenberg's students took their hand-made groundhogs outside the morning of Feb. 2, but they saw no shadows. That means even this mild winter is coming to a close.

D70 Supt. Dr. Guy Schumacher watches the first set of races over the weekend at the Pine Wood Derby for Pack 72 based at Butterfield School. Tiger Scouts, Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts competed in the race where Supt.Schumacher was one of three judges. The race was held at the Methodist Church in Libertyville.

D70 Attendance Rate Ranks High - Superintendent's

Four Libertyville Elementary District 70 schools ranked in the top 10 for the 23rd Annual Lake County Elementary School Fall Attendance Week. Ranking number one for "large" schools in the county was Highland Middle School. It tied for the top slot for large elementary schools with 980 students for a 97.63 percent attendance rate. Ranking in the top 10 slots for schools smaller than 450 was fifth place Copeland Manor School with 400 students with a 98.07 percent attendance rate and coming up in seventh place was Adler Park School with 262 students and a 97.94 percent attendance rate. For Medium sized elementary schools, Butterfield School tied with several schools for seventh place in the top 10 with 531 students with a 97 percent attendance rate. Students and principals attended a celebration lunch Jan. 30 and received certificates.

Rockland 100th Day Celebration - Superintendent's

Rockland first-grader Owen McDonnell sports a colorful hat he wore Feb. 3 to celebrate the 100th day of school. In Mrs. Crenshaw's classroom, first-graders spent time learning about 100 through a variety of activities, which included spelling 100 words correctly, as well as counting to 100.
