Monies for Moore
District 70 will donate $2,500 to help the victims of the tornado that hit Moore, Ok., earlier in May.
The fundraiser, called "Monies for Moore - The Moore We Can Offer, The Better," was held in the last few weeks of school.

The district's Character Counts Committee set out collection containers in each school office. Monies collected are being donated to the Moore Public Schools Tornado Relief Fund to help school families with recovery.

"I'm grateful, on behalf of our Libertyville schools, that we could, in such a short amount of time, collect money in support of the Moore school community," said Supt. Dr. Guy Schumacher.
"Any financial relief we can offer will be greatly valued, I'm certain."

Changes in ISAT Cut Scores
In anticipation of a new testing framework in 2014-2015, the Illinois State Board of Education is recalculating the Illinois Standards Achievement Test (ISAT) performance expectations for reading and mathematics.
Higher performance expectations will likely result in a downward shift of where our students rank in meeting and/or exceeding state standards on the tests. This is not an indication that our students know less or are less academically capable or prepared, but that they are being measured against more rigorous standards.

Highland is a Class Act
HMS has unveiled a new character education initiative for our students. As a district we are committed to delivering character education through the framework of Character Counts. Our goal was to create an age appropriate extension of those values established in elementary school. The "Class Act" value statements translate the six pillars of Character Counts into positive behaviors at Highland Middle School. "Class Act" helps communicate the expectations we have for our entire HMS community. These values give us common language to use throughout the building, regardless of grade level or location. We all share the responsibility for creating a positive environment for learning and growing, and this just helps HMS be a class act. To see our Class Act document, click on the documents page of our website.
