District 70 - Summer Announcements

New Sections Added!

Two new sections of Sharpen your Reading and Writing Skills for grades 2 and 3 have been opened. They are offered Periods 1 and 2. If you would like to change your child's schedule to take this class, please email summerregistration@d70schools.org. There will be no change fee for this change. If newly registering the class is called: Sharpen your Reading/Writing2.

Change Requests

Registration is open! Please click on the Register Now! button to register. We have many questions about changes to schedules after registration. Please see below and our FAQ section for details. What if I register for a class, and later my child wants to change that class? Before May 24, send a detailed message to summerregistration@d70schools.org about what class your child is currently enrolled in, and what class they would like to change to. You will be contacted if we are able to accommodate that change. Changes needed after May 24 must be done in person during the summer school Open House on Friday, June 7 from 8:00-10:00 am at Highland or June 10-11 from 8:00 am to 12:00 noon. No changes will be made to classes after June 11th at noon. Please note there is a $5 change fee for each class change.

Schedules

Do I need to print my child's schedule? YES! Schedules WILL NOT be mailed after you register because they are available online. We can help students find their classes much more efficiently if they have their schedules available. Students must retain the schedule until they have it memorized. Be aware that the schedule will print in the order you register, not necessarily in the order of the classes. For example, if you register for period 4 first, your period 4 class may be first on your schedule. The schedule will include the fees paid for the classes. We suggest you print and file a copy of the schedule for tax purposes.

Updates

Do I need to do anything between registering and showing up at summer school on the first day? Yes. An updated schedule will be e-mailed to you after online registration ends. PLEASE PRINT THIS SCHEDULE AND BRING IT WITH YOU THE FIRST WEEK OF SUMMER SCHOOL! Your updated schedule will contain any classroom changes, a cover letter with other important information, and a map. PLEASE be sure your child has the updated information with him or her before arriving at summer school. We cannot stress enough how important this is.

Vacations

Does the summer school office need to know when we're going to be absent? Yes, we appreciate being informed of planned student absences, especially extended vacations. Please e-mail the details including your child's name to summerregistration@d70schools.org.

Pre K and Pre 1st

Who is my child's teacher for Pre K or Pre 1st classes? Pre K and Pre 1st will be assigned teachers at a later date. This information will be e-mailed before summer school begins.

Busing

What do I need to know about bus transportation? We STRONGLY encourage all students to take the bus. Student pick up and drop off will be GREATLY impacted by planned construction projects around Highland and Rockland this summer. Busing is available to all students for a fee. Fees are $45 for one way, or $90 for both ways per student. You will have 5 stops to choose from: Adler Park School, Butler Lake Park, Central Park, Copeland Manor School, or Overholser Park. You sign up for busing when you register for summer school. Once you have signed up, bus details and passes will be mailed to your home before summer school begins. There will be NO busing refunds once summer school starts.

Cancellation Policy

Can I cancel my child's registration? There will be a $20 cancellation fee per student regardless of the number of classes registered for. The last day to cancel and receive a full refund (minus $20) will be Friday, May 24. To cancel your child's classes, please e-mail summerregistration@d70schools.org with all pertinent information. You will receive a confirmation e-mail after the classes have been canceled. Cancellations done between Saturday, May 25 and Tuesday, June 11 will receive a refund of 50% of the total tuition charged. Cancellations after June 11 will not receive a refund. There will be no bus refunds once summer school begins.

Grade Levels

Are the grade levels in the catalog the grade my child is in now, or the grade they will be in the fall? Students are to be registered for the grade they will begin in August 2013.

Class Changes

General Summer Information

A flyer with general information about our program is available <a href="http://www.d70schools.org/schoolsites/lib/redirect.php?res_id=2989">here</A>. Registration is open. As you plan your registration, we HIGHLY recommend busing based on planned construction projects around Highland Middle School. Construction is planned for behind HMS on Lincoln Ave. Also there will be construction on the west side of the building with several parking spots on Rockland Rd. being used for construction trucks. Please consider busing as an option for summer school.

Summer School 2013

Summer School 2013 will run Monday, June 10 through Thursday, July 11. No school will be held on Friday for the entire 5 week program. No school will be held on Thursday, July 4th in observance of Independence Day. The locations are the same as last year: Pre-Kindergarten and Pre-1st Grade at Rockland School, and grades 2-8 at Highland Middle School. The student schedules are as follows: Period 1: 8:30am - 9:15am Period 2: 9:20am - 10:05am Period 3: 10:10am - 10:55am Period 4: 11:00am - 11:45am

Busing

Busing will be available for students, with stops at: -Adler Park School (in the turnaround) -Butterfield School (in the U drive) -Copeland Manor School (on 4th Ave. this year!) -Overholser Park -St. Joe's/Central Park Please note Copeland Manor pick up/drop off will be on 4th Ave (near the field) and not at the school entrance. This is due to construction on 7th Ave. The cost will be the same as last year, $45 for one way or $90 for both ways. We HIGHLY recommend that families consider using the bus service to avoid the traffic congestion around Highland and Rockland at pickup and dropoff times. With planned construction projects around the schools this summer, parking and access may be more limited than usual.
