Libertyville District 70

In-person summer school in Libertyville District 70 begins on Monday, June 14, and D70 is excited to offer academic courses including math, reading, and writing for students in grades K-8 to specifically address unfinished learning during the pandemic. 

Registration for Summer School begins at 9 a.m. on Thursday, April 1st, through our d70schools.org website and is open to only District 70 families. Families will register students by their 2021-22 grade level and students will then be assigned a class for the entire morning sessions which run from 8:30-11:45 a.m., Monday through Thursday until July 15. For an extra fee, bus service will be available for summer school, which will be held at Highland Middle and Rockland schools, both located next to one another on Rockland Road in Libertyville

Students will not rotate among classes and must remain in school for the entire three-hour morning sessions. As has become practice during COVID-19, students will be asked to self-certify for COVID symptoms every morning before summer school. Face masks will be required, as will social distancing and frequent hand washing. 

• Intervention services will be offered for students who qualify for the additional help and will be pulled into small groups from general education time. Both math and reading intervention services will be offered. 
• Summer school also will offer Extended School Year (ESY) for students who qualify through their Individualized Education Program. Students in this program will be grouped together and spend their time in the same class.

District 70 is monitoring the Illinois Department of Public Health's IDPH regional data and the Lake County Health Department’s COVID-19 Data Hub and has made the decision to open schools in a hybrid learning model using mitigations listed below.   

Additional data by D70 school/building about students and staff with a positive COVID-19 diagnosis, who are in isolation, and who are in quarantine can be found here. Families and staff will be informed of a positive COVID-19 diagnosis at their school or assigned building in accordance with guidance from LCHD (See Appendix A. Confirmed Case in School Letter Template). 
*Risk transmission also is based on the importance of schools having solid mitigation strategies in place (e.g., daily certifications, social distancing, proper mask utilization, enhanced cleaning, hand hygiene, and contact tracing) as a part of each school district’s continued ability to make local decisions about what instruction looks like during the pandemic. LCHD recently aligned with CDC indicators & thresholds for transmission ranges as less than 7 per 100,000 = low risk of transmission; between 7 and 14 per 100,000 = moderate risk of transmission; and higher than 14 per 100,000 = high risk of transmission.

Please self-certify your child(ren) before 7:30 a.m. before school.

For the first several weeks of hybrid, in-person school families will receive an email with a link to self-certify. You may bookmark that link after submitting the health form to return to self-certify again for the next day. A text also will be sent to families of students attending school in-person to remind them to self-certify.

By law, District 70 may only send text messages to families who opt-in to the service. Information on how to opt-in to text messages can be found on the announcement page of each school website, as well as the district website. 

District 70's eLearning Plan can be used to replace Emergency Days off through the next three school years, 2020-2023.  

The plan allows District 70 to use eLearning days, instead of Emergency Days (such as Snow Days), so that students can continue to learn remotely.

The state mandates that five emergency days are built into the school calendar to accommodate emergency school closures due to inclement weather or other events beyond our control (flooding, school power outages, etc.).  The emergency days are built into the school calendar at the end of every school year.

The eLearning Plan, approved by the school board and the Regional Office of education, will allow students to learn remotely when schools have to be closed and also will allow the school year to end on a set date without being extended to accommodate the built-in emergency days.
