Teaching, Learning & Assessments

The Teaching and Learning Department, formerly known as curriculum and instruction, monitors and facilitates the review, adoption, evaluation, and growth of all K-8 core curricula.

Other responsibilities include:

• Working with all teachers, building level, and district administration to support researched-based student instruction; 
• Working with ELA, Math, SEL and Technology coordinators and department leads to research and implement current and relevant curriculum;
• Monitoring and facilitating growth with our general education interventionists who support students working below or above grade level curriculum;
• Overseeing state and locally mandated assessments administered to District 70 students (IAR, STAR, Aimsweb), sharing performance reports with families, and working with staff to use data for instructional and curriculum decision-making;
• Collaborating with principals on School Improvement Plans as a team to examine data on student performance and create improvement goals while incorporating instructional strategies grounded in scientifically based research designed to improve student performance; 
• Coordinating staff professional development with all D70 departments such as safety, student services or technology.
