School Board Appreciation Day on Nov. 15
Guy Schumacher

This week kicks off American Education Week, and as we do, we offer sincere appreciation for all that our Board of Education does for the students and community served.

On Thursday, November 15, we highlight seven highly conscientious leaders in Libertyville School District 70: Tom Vickers, Wendy Schilling, Chris Kennedy,  Greta Hoff, Linda Lucke, Marc Grote, and Chris Coughlin.

Committed to student success, facilities that meet the needs of the learning community, and dedicated to a vision of continuous improvement, these District 70 school board members work effectively to address the goals and objectives set for the district at large. Their commitment, devotion, and collective enthusiasm are greatly admired and highly valued. It is an honor to work closely with such a conscientious team.

Thank you for being an integral part of all that makes District 70 such a positive environment.

School Closings, Emergency Notifications
Snowflake 1 District 70 takes closing schools seriously. When the decision is made to close schools due to inclement weather, District 70 uses an emergency notification system to deliver phone calls and emails about school closings or safety emergencies.

There also now is an option to opt-in to receive the information via text by texting 67587 with either Y or YES as the message you send.

This text (SMS) service only will be used in the event of school closings or a school emergency. For more information about school closings, please read the FAQ.

New Illinois School Report Card 2018
Illinois

In a commitment to new statewide accountability and support, the 2018 Illinois School Report Card will take on new areas of concentration when released in late October. Reinstating the work of the No Child Behind Act, the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA), signed into law in 2015 by President Barack Obama, offers credence to student growth and graduation rates, accounting for fifty percent of how schools are evaluated, and carrying with it a 15-year timeline.

Transitioning from a spotlight focused on standardized test scores, multiple indicators of students’ success will be used to assess school quality. In addition to standardized tests, comprehensive indicators will include academic growth, chronic absenteeism, English learner proficiency, fine arts participation, school climate survey summaries, science measures, as well as preschool to second grade and elementary/ middle-grade indicators. The system also measures the academic progress of individual student demographic groups across the inclusive indicators. High school indicators comprise college entrance examination (SAT) success, as well as graduation accountability.

Using these balanced indicators, as defined through ESSA, a set of four tiers have been designated to reflect individual school performance; Exemplary, Commendable, Underperforming/Comprehensive, and Lowest Performing/Targeted, with funding and support services aligned to the most challenged or struggling of schools.
