FEBRUARY NEWSLETTER - 1-29-2021
FROM DR. KEHOE
Parent / Teacher Conference
• Volunteers and visitors are unable to come into the building at this time.
• In trying to mitigate any risk of exposure, we will not pass out valentine cards in classrooms this year.
• Head Room Parents can work with classroom teachers to plan a short valentine activity (30-40 min max) for the class. This can be a craft that is sent in for each student and the teacher facilitates the craft. Or the parent can join a class Meet (live stream) and facilitate the craft, if that is preferred. Or it could be the Head Room Parent reading a fun valentine story. This activity would need to take place on 2/10 (so that AM and PM can participate).
• Valentine goody bags (without food) can be sent in to send home with students if the Head Room Parent would like to bring those in to school. They need to be delivered to Butterfield by Friday, February 5th so that virtual families have a chance to pick them up.
Everyone follows regular schedule until 1:15 PM this day.
School day ends for everyone at 1:15 PM.
Biggest change is that PM in-person students attend class virtually this day.
More information about Early Release and upcoming Late Arrival Days (2/26 and 5/28) can be found here:
Thursday, February 11th
Friday, February 12th
Monday, February 15th
Gifted and Enrichment News
What a great year it has been so for the Gifted and Enrichment classes! Here's an update on the exciting work that has been going on in Mrs. Rech's “virtual” room.
Gifted Classes: In math, the 3rd, 4th and 5th grade gifted students are learning advanced problem-solving, where students work to solve higher-level problems. In reading, the students work through novel studies. We are currently finishing up a novel study of The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.
Math Enrichment: The 1st-5th grade math enrichment groups work on extending students' mathematical knowledge. The groups are flexible and change with each math unit based on pretesting. The lessons correlate with the math concept that is being taught in their classrooms, but the concept is taken to a deeper and more complicated level. It's amazing to see what the Butterfield students can do with math!
Reading Enrichment: These enrichment groups focus on extending students' learning of reading. The 1st-5th grade groups have worked on reading short stories and completing higher-level activities that go along with the readings. The reading groups are also flexible and change throughout the year.
Please feel free to contact Conna Rech if you have any questions about the GTE services. firstname.lastname@example.org
