Rockland Review & RAP - 9-14-2018
A Note from Mr. Knapp

Dear Rockland Families,

We've now been in school for a month and have established our routines and procedures.  We’re excited with how much learning and fun we have taken place and continue to look ahead to all of the great things to come.  STAR testing has been completed in the areas of Math and Reading for our students as those scores from this first benchmark are coming home today with your child.  The children did a very nice job completing these computerized, adaptive assessments that they will take again in January and May. This data will be helpful for our teachers in planning instruction and setting goals with parents at the October conferences.

In addition, the Rockland teachers have been doing individual reading assessments with the students and will continue to do so over the next few weeks.  Having this information will help set the learning path for your child to be challenged and grow throughout the school year. We look forward to sharing more in this area at the October goal setting parent-teacher conferences as well.  I would like to emphasize how proud I am of the Rockland staff and District #70 as a whole for committing towards continuous improvement. We take this data very seriously and are analyzing it to work collaboratively to ensure that students are learning the academic standards.

I want to say thank you to all of the parents who came to our first Rockland Family Association meeting this past Tuesday.  We greatly appreciate all of the involvement from our parents. It is always exciting to meet some of our new families and those parents of younger aged (Kg and 1st grades) children who made their first meeting and we hope to see you all at our next general meeting on November 6th in the Learning Center.

Have a great week ahead and a reminder that we have no school next Wednesday,

Jeff Knapp

Principal

Rockland School

Now is the time to consider getting your flu shot! Protect yourself and your family this flu season.  As always, talk to your doctor to see if the flu shot is right for you and your children.

Calling All Veterans

Rockland Character Counts Committee is going to sponsor a very special assembly the morning of Monday November 12th.  This will be to celebrate Veteran’s Day.

Our plan is to have as many Veterans, or currently active members of the military, as are available for this morning.  We will be hosting a breakfast before school begins for the Vets. Then at 8:30 we will have an assembly in the gym. The students will do a short performance of songs and then we will have an “open mike” presentation from the Veterans.  They will have time to share their experiences, their love for our country, and they will be excellent role models of the pillar of Citizenship.

We would like to see family members, relatives, and good friends who are Veterans of any branch of the military.  We hope that they would be comfortable sharing their memories.

We are looking forward to this being a very memorable assembly.

You may fill out this form and return it to Dale List via the office or email Mrs. List at:  dlist@d70schools.org

Thank you in advance for your support.

Did you know that reading for pleasure unlocks the power of information and imagination and helps children discover who they are?  Here are a few simple things you can do to help children develop stronger reading skills and a love for reading:

3.  Support our school’s book fair. Allow your children to choose their own books to read.
