Carol Janossy is Director of Orchestras for Libertyville District 70. She teaches 4th grade beginner and 5th grade intermediate orchestral string instruments at Adler and Rockland elementary schools. She also teaches grades sixth through eighth grade string orchestra students at Highland Middle School. Mrs. Janossy directs the 5th Grade Intermediate Orchestra, 7th & 8th Highland Strings, Strolling Strings and the Highland Middle School Concert Orchestra. Mrs. Janossy also maintains a private studio of violin/viola students in her hometown of Lincolnwood. She is director of the Lincolnwood Youth Strings, a summer orchestra supported by the Village of Lincolnwood. If asked why she teaches strings, Mrs. Janossy would tell you that she loves nurturing children on their musical orchestral journey. Her main goal is to not only teach the technical requirements of playing an instrument but to help students learn and love the joys of communication and personal expression through a non verbal medium and to share the joys of music sharing with the community. In 2005 Mrs. Janossy received the American String Teachers Illinois Chapter “Outstanding Teacher” award. IGSMA awarded her the Barbara Buelhman “Young Conductor Award” in 2010. The Village of Lincolnwood awarded Mrs. Janossy and the Lincolnwood Youth Strings the 2018 “Person of the Year” Award for their musical contribution to the Village of Lincolnwood. Mrs. Janossy continues to play professionally with the Symphony of Oak Park and River Forest in Oak Park as principal second violin. When not playing music, Mrs. Janossy loves hiking while, you guessed it, listening to music on her head phones or the natural musical sounds of nature.
