Hello Adler Orchestra Students, We truly hope your summer has been full of fun, rest and relaxation, and of course some involvement with music. This year promises to be a full one. We have been busy planning an exciting year of music making. We look forward to working with all of you; helping you to build upon the skills you learned last year and to learn new skills as you continue making music in District 70. We would like to mention a few matters for your consideration. First, many of you have most likely grown a bit over the summer, which is a good thing. We will be available to help you determine what sized instrument will help you to become your best for the next school year. We plan to make these assessments the first order of business. We will give you a written description of your needs at your "Kick-off" meeting. Renting an instrument at this time is a good choice and offers you flexibility. If, however, you are planning on purchasing an instrument please contact us before making the purchase. While there are many seemingly good deals available, it is truly best to purchase from a reputable string instrument dealer. A good luthier can provide you with the best instrument for you and your family budget and can also help maintain this instrument so that your young musician can become their best. Your young musician will enjoy playing an instrument that sounds beautiful and can be maintained. We can provide you with a list of local string shops and music stores in the area when you receive your assessment..

PARENTS PLEASE EXERCISE CAUTION WHEN PICKING UP YOUR CHILDREN AFTER TUESDAY ORCHESTRA. THERE ARE MANY CHILDREN WHO ARE SMALL AND CAN NOT BE SEEN EASILY AS THEY GO TO MEET THEIR PARENTS. PLEASE DRIVE SLOWLY AND WITH GREAT CAUTION SO THAT ALL ARE SAFE. ONE MORE NOTE: PLEASE BE SURE YOUR CHILDREN HAVE WRITTEN DOWN OR KNOW CONTACT NUMBERS IN CASE YOU ARE RUNNING LATE PICKING THEM UP AFTER REHEARSAL. WE HAVE HOME PHONE NUMBERS BUT NOT CELL PHONES. WE NEED MORE THAN ONE CONTACT NUMBER. THANK YOU
Remember to play your instrument for family and friends.
Some of you have expressed interest in purchasing a Kun shoulder rest. These are available at Classic Violins, Libertyville Music and on line at sharmusic.com. I have explained to the kids that because these will greatly aid them in holding their instruments in the proper position they are also very expensive. The children will need to take responsibility for their care. If you purchase a Kun please purchase one that will fit appropriately, the vendor can guide you and be sure to purchase one that collapses so it fits in the case. If it does not fit in the case please purchase a pouch that fits on the case. Be sure to put your child's name on the Kun also. Feel free to contact me with questions or concerns. One final note, I will try to keep my District 70 website up to date with announcements. You can access this site by visiting the Highland School site, click staff, scroll down to my name, and then click the little globe. Please feel free to contact me at any time. It is best to use email. We truly hope that all of you continue to play your instrument and be part of the Highland Orchestra program. Our music making will take us on some terrific journeys this year. We look forward to working with you, and a fine year of music making. Musically yours, Mrs. Janossy
